A lot changes when you\u2019re dating over 50, but the changes aren\u2019t always what you\u2019d expect. True, it\u2019s a little bit harder to meet people, but men and women over 50 are still meeting in bars, at parties, and online; getting set up by friends and family; and bumping into each other in grocery stores and coffee shops. What changes is the people. When you\u2019re a woman over 50, the men you meet have had more experiences with relationships (both good and bad) and what they\u2019re looking for is different from what most 30-somethings want.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

We make assumptions about what men in their 50s want in a woman (and what all men want for that matter) but are they really that different from men in their 30s and 40s? To help find the answers we turned to the popular online dating site Zoosk<\/a>. They data-mined 656,356 profiles to see what words men in their 30s, 40s, and 50s mention most often when describing what they’re looking for in another person.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

And it shouldn\u2019t come as too much of a surprise that while some things change as we get older, other things stay the same. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Men of all ages want a fun, honest women<\/b>
\n<\/span>The most popular characteristic for all men of all ages is <\/span>fun<\/span><\/i>. And the second most popular characteristic for all men of all ages is <\/span>honest<\/span><\/i>. Across the board, men are looking for honest women they can have a good time with.  <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Men over 50 are more relationship-minded<\/b>
\n<\/span>Unlike their younger counterparts, men over 50 are more likely to say they\u2019re looking for a <\/span>relationship<\/span><\/i>. In fact, it\u2019s the third most popular term they mention. Men in their 40s do mention looking for a relationship, but other characteristics are more important. And men in their 30s don\u2019t mention it much at all. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A loving partner becomes more important as you get older
\n<\/b>Another interesting finding is that men of all ages are interested in finding a <\/span>loving<\/span><\/i> partner but how important it is becomes more important with age. <\/span>Loving <\/span><\/i>is the 11th most popular characteristic for men in their 30s, the 6th for men in their 40s, and 5th for men over 50.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Older guys have learned to value intelligent women
\n<\/b>Similar to <\/span>loving<\/span><\/i>, older men put more emphasis on a woman\u2019s intelligence than younger men. For men over 40 <\/span>intelligence<\/span><\/i> is the 16th most popular characteristic, while for men over 50 it jumps to the 13th most popular trait. Interestingly enough, men in their 30s don\u2019t mention <\/span>intelligence<\/span><\/i> as often but instead use the word <\/span>smart <\/span><\/i>when describing the women they\u2019re looking for. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

All men love a good sense of humor
\n<\/b>Perhaps this goes along with being fun, but men of all ages mention <\/span>humor<\/span><\/i> or a <\/span>sense of humor<\/span><\/i> as a top trait. And women who know how to have a good <\/span>laugh<\/span><\/i> are popular too.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Men over 50 are looking for romance
\n<\/b>Unlike men in their 30s and 40s, one word that keeps popping up for men over 50 is <\/span>romantic.<\/span><\/i> Perhaps the older we get, the more we value love and romance over finding someone we can just have a good time with. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Older men still want someone active
\n<\/b>Men over 50 also mentioned they were into someone <\/span>active<\/span><\/i> much more often than men in their 40s and 30s. This is great news for women who aren\u2019t interested in slowing down as they get older.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

After looking into what men in their 30s, 40s, and 50s are looking for a few things become obvious\u2014for the most part, men of all ages want an honest, caring person who they can also have a great time and laugh with. (And that shouldn\u2019t be too surprising, since it\u2019s what a lot of people want in a partner.) However, there are a few things that become more important as they get older. Men over 50 are looking for romance, someone who\u2019s loving, a partner they can be active with, and a woman with intelligence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They say as we get older we don\u2019t change, we just become more clearly ourselves. As you look for your special someone over 50, keep in mind that he\u2019s really not that different from the younger men who are out there, or the younger man he once was.
