It’s not easy figuring out what to say to someone who ghosted you<\/a>. Imagine getting to know someone and after a few dates and late-night talks, BOOM\u2014they disappear without a trace. Did this person lose your number? Get amnesia? Get kidnapped by aliens? There\u2019s a term for this, called ghosting<\/a>, and it’s the kind of rejection that leaves you wondering, \u201cWhy or how did this even happen?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And, what’s even weirder, is that sometimes the ghost comes back from the dead. If you’ve ever had someone leave you with no word and come back like nothing happened, then these tips are for you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here are some things you can do and say to a ghost who comes back from the dead…<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here’s What to Say to Someone Who Ghosted You<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

1. Thanks, but no thanks.
\n<\/strong>You don’t owe a ghost an explanation if you’re over it and ready to move on, so don’t be afraid to go the blunt route. In this scenario, your goal would be to say something that lets him or her know that you’re no longer interested and they may as well disappear again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here are examples of what you can say:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI don\u2019t have the patience to be on and off with someone.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI\u2019m not interested in being involved with someone who’s leading me on.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cPlease do not ever call me again.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI\u2019ve gotten in a committed relationship since we last talked.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDo me a favor, don\u2019t call me again.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThanks for clearing that up, I have to go.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI\u2019m not interested in doing this with you anymore.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI really liked you and you started ignoring my calls and texts like I didn\u2019t mean anything to you. Starting over is too much for me.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI\u2019ve been trying to reach out to you for the past two weeks and haven\u2019t heard anything back. It would\u2019ve been settling to formally end things, but I guess you don\u2019t want that.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cLet\u2019s make this the last time we talkn.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSorry, I just don\u2019t allow people to be in and out of my life.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2. Ghost them back.
<\/strong>What to say to someone who ghosted you? How about… nothing? If you want, you can return like for like and take the say nothing approach. If it was short lived and you feel like you haven\u2019t gained or lost anything from the experience, then you don’t really need closure with this person and can move on without addressing the ghosting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It takes a lot of mental strength to be able to avoid someone you once felt close to. So beat \u2018em at their own game!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here are some classy comebacks to respond with:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ghost: \u201cI\u2019ve been busy.\u201d
\nYou: \u201cMe too, but I still had time to respond to your message.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ghost: \u201cI have a lot going on.\u201d
\nYou: \u201cEveryone has a lot going on. It doesn’t take a lot of time to tell someone that.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ghost: \u201cI\u2019m confused about my feelings.\u201d
\nYou: \u201cI\u2019m confused as to why you just couldn\u2019t say that.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ghost: \u201cI got cold feet\u201d
You: \u201cI didn\u2019t know ghosts had feet.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ghost: \u201cI had another situationship going on.\u201d
\nYou: \u201cWell, this ship has sailed. Guess you only have one to worry about now.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ghost: \u201cSorry I ran out on you like that\u201d
\nYou: \u201cYa, me too, because now I don’t care.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ghost: \u201cMy phone was broken, I didn\u2019t know how to reach you.\u201d
\nYou: \u201cAnd yet you were all over social media.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Either response you take should be thought through with consideration of your feelings, <\/em>not the person who disappeared on you. There’s no right or wrong when figuring out what to say to someone who ghosted you – the ball’s in your court.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you decide to move forward with keeping in contact with this person, the key is to make sure that there’s a better understanding of how consistent you expect the communication to be and how serious or not serious you are about seeing each other.
