Having two people compete for your affections may seem like the ideal scenario. It\u2019s not only flattering, but you\u2019re given the power of choice. \u201cIf you find yourself caught in a love triangle, it\u2019s worth taking some time out to consider whether the product is worth the price,\u201d dating coach, <\/span>Raffi Bilek, LCSW-C<\/span><\/a>, tells The Date Mix. \u201cLove triangles inevitably get very messy, often with lots of feelings hurt on all sides. It is hard to resolve things in a way that works for everyone. Even if you come out on top in the end, it\u2019s likely you will have endured some emotional wounds and scars.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

You can either be one of two people competing for the same person, or be the person two people are competing for. Regardless of which scenario you\u2019re in, things can get pretty messy. It can get even worse one person is already in a relationship but is starting to develop feelings for someone else. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

So what can you do when you\u2019re caught in a love triangle? According to experts, there are a few essential things you need to do. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Get real with yourself about the situation
\n<\/b>You can\u2019t always choose who you fall for. But you can decide what you\u2019re going to do about it. You know yourself. If you\u2019re not completely comfortable being in a love triangle situation, then the guilt, shame, jealousy, and anxiety will do a number on you. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIf you\u2019re prepared to go through this gauntlet in order to possibly end up with a relationship you think will be worth it, go for it,\u201d Bilek says. \u201cIf not, perhaps it\u2019s time to look for a serious relationship in calmer waters.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Have a positive and fulfilling life outside of the situation.
\n<\/b>\u201cMake sure you have positive things to fill your time,\u201d Carol Queen PhD, <\/span>Good Vibrations<\/span><\/a> sexologist and author, tells The Date Mix. \u201cDon’t pine.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Instead, read a good book. Start a novel. Catch up with your friends. Binge-watch premium TV. Just fill your life with things you truly enjoy. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Treat each person with respect.
\n<\/b>If you\u2019re in a situation where two people are going after you, give both of them the respect they deserve. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cNever pit the other two against each other like they\u2019re divorced parents competing for your attention,\u201d says <\/span>Mayla Green<\/span><\/a>, sex and relationship expert. \u201cDon’t share what the other did in an attempt to make them jealous. Keep your feelings about the other person to yourself. You want to keep jealousy at a minimum, so avoid talking to one person about the other.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The key here is to keep it as drama-free as possible. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Be honest about what you want and what you\u2019re comfortable with.
\n<\/b>\u201cFocus on clarity, transparency and simplicity,\u201d dating coach, <\/span>Michelle Baxo<\/span><\/a>, says. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

One way to mess up an already tangled situation is to be wishy-washy about what you want. If you haven\u2019t made up your mind about being exclusive with just one person, say that. It\u2019s important to communicate openly and honestly so everyone can manage their expectations. According to Baxo, a love triangle requires mature communication, honesty, simple rules\/expectations, and integrity from all parties involved. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n
