The Emoji Overload<\/b>
\n<\/b>Emojis are cute, fun, and a good valid way to convey emotion, but overuse will make your profile read like a third grader\u2019s workbook and will obscure what you\u2019re trying to get across. And remember: not all emojis mean the same thing to everyone. Use them sparingly and don\u2019t overwhelm your profile. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Travel Brag<\/b>
\n<\/b>Traveling is cool\u2014very cool, in fact. But unless you\u2019re a digital nomad or a woofer, it\u2019s only one part of your identity. Also, remember traveling is a privilege. Brag too hard, and you might shed a little bit of a superiority complex over your lesser traveled singles. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Overused Quote
\n<\/b>Whether inspirational or comical, if you\u2019ve seen a quote once, you\u2019ve seen it a million times. And if someone\u2019s seeing it for the millionth time, you\u2019re the millionth eye roll. This one isn\u2019t a dealbreaker, but it\u2019s better to explain why you idolize somebody instead of identifying who your idol is with an overused statement.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The \u201cI\u2019m Spontaneous\u201d <\/b>
\n<\/span>Most people think they\u2019re spontaneous. Most people are not.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The \u201cSarcasm Is My Second Language\u201d
\n<\/b>Wow your sarcasm is so funny. Must get you a lot of matches.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Netflix and Chill<\/b>
\n<\/span>You like Netflix? Great. You are a human in 2019. Netflix and chill jokes were dead on arrival. To most strangers on dating apps (aka everyone) you\u2019ll come off as crude and cliche. Neither is a good look.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Height As An Achievement<\/b>
\n<\/span>So you\u2019re 6\u20194\u201d. Height is a hot commodity for men, but to boil yourself down to something you have no control over isn\u2019t going to help your cause. We promise it\u2019s not all that important and, with the exception of some studio camera tricks, we can tell from your photos. Get it outta here.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Bossy Bio<\/b>
\n<\/span>Any dating profile that tells other people what they should be has got to go. If you\u2019re telling other people to be funny, adventurous, or famous needs to make a judgement. It comes off as shallow and negative, which doesn\u2019t make for a good first impression. If you aren\u2019t into somebody else, you don\u2019t need to contact them. No need to dictate your rules for romance to complete strangers on the internet.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Baby Photo
\n<\/b>Just like in job interviews, if you\u2019re starting with an explanation, you\u2019re already on the backfoot. If you have a photo with a baby and it isn\u2019t yours, you\u2019re already explaining yourself. Don\u2019t include a baby photo unless the kid is actually yours. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The \u201cWe\u2019ll Tell Our Kids We Met In A Coffee Shop\u201d <\/b>
\n<\/span>Online and app dating is normal now. This joke was once cute, but not it reeks of insecurity. You\u2019ll tell your kids you met on a dating app, and they\u2019ll think it\u2019s just as square as meeting at a coffee shop because your kids will have some newfangled dating thing they do in the future. We all date on apps now. Own up to it. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dating is hard, but it\u2019s also fun. The best way to date, whether in person or online or on an app is (I know it\u2019s cliche) by being yourself. Be original, be authentic, be you. <\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
