When we reach for an item of clothing from our closet we are setting ourselves up for a subconscious interpretation by others. This can be really important when choosing what to wear on a date.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 1974, two researchers named Keith Jacobs and Frank Hustmyer <a href=\"http:\/\/www.scienceofpeople.com\/2012\/12\/the-best-and-worst-colors-to-wear-to-work\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">found that the effect of color is so intense<\/a> that it can even alter our blood pressure and heart rate. Their findings explain why we are drawn to certain colors while other colors are&nbsp;rather off-putting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So, what colors&nbsp;work magic on the opposite sex?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For both genders, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.psychologytoday.com\/blog\/insight-therapy\/201301\/red-alert-science-discovers-the-color-sexual-attraction\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">red makes quite an impression<\/a>. Women who wear red are considered more memorable. The red color echoes the flush women experience during ovulation, eliciting a more positive response from men. Surprisingly, women find men who wear red more attractive, too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Yellow, although equally happy and bright as red, doesn\u2019t have the some positive effect. While it does stimulate the senses,&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.scienceofpeople.com\/2012\/12\/the-best-and-worst-colors-to-wear-to-work\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">yellow is often associated with instability<\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2014<\/span>both professionally and personally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While you can never go wrong with neutral colors, brown doesn\u2019t seem to be making any lasting impressions. A <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/femail\/article-2474864\/Want-boyfriend-Wear-red-avoid-yellow-date.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2013 survey of appealing colors<\/a> on men and women showed that brown just doesn\u2019t do it for most, but black, on the other hand, (who doesn\u2019t look great in black?), is a color people can get behind, because it\u2019s often <a href=\"http:\/\/www.slate.com\/articles\/double_x\/doublex\/2013\/03\/new_book_drunk_tank_pink_argues_red_is_the_color_for_dating_profiles.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">associated with wealth and elegance<\/a>. Blue, the most commonly worn color also has some positive effects,&nbsp;but not a strong enough correlation to a positive or negative response.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These finding are not to suggest that you should only invest in red, blue, or black clothes<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2014<\/span>and burn anything yellow or brown. Instead, it&#8217;s good to understand the little things that might give you an advantage in your love life.&nbsp;It\u2019s hard enough trying to keep a conversation going on a first date, so if you have to sit through the occasional lull, you might as well look great doing so.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Red, yellow, or neutral colors?
