Interested in being a writer for The Date Mix? Great! We’re always looking for fresh, new voices and people who have something interesting to add to the conversation.
What We’re Looking For
The Date Mix was created to be more than your typical dating advice site. We want our articles to give people actionable dating and relationship advice. That means the majority of our articles have at least one takeaway that readers can apply to their love life and relationships right away.
But that doesn’t mean we can’t have fun! Sometimes a good laugh, some celebrity gossip, or a heartwarming story can offer our readers the perspective or comic relief their love life needs too.
Have a fresh perspective on an old topic? Great, pitch it. Have a hilarious story you just have to share somewhere? We want to hear it too! Did you read about an amazing social science study you think could be applied to dating? Awesome! What we’re really looking for is creativity and great writing.
– Posts should be as long as they need to be in order to be high-quality and comprehensive. The majority of our articles are around 1,200 words but they can be longer or shorter depending on your topic.
– Topics should be relevant to dating, relationships, love (though not necessarily traditional love), and online dating. We encourage thinking outside the box but still want content to be relevant and helpful to our readers.
– Whenever possible, back up any advice or claims with behavioral research or information from a trusted source. Credit and link to any sources, references, or research.
– If you have a relationship or connection with a company, brand, product or service, you should always tell us and include a disclosure of that relationship or connection in your post.
What We Pass On
Typically, we don’t publish personal narratives. However, if you have a unique perspective or a new story to tell, we’re interested.
To give you an example, we’ve read a lot of articles such as My Adventures In Online Dating or What Happened When I Tried Online Dating. They aren’t super exciting anymore. However, articles like What Happened When I Helped My Dad Start Online Dating or The Secret Online Dating Hack You Have to Know offer a new take on an old topic and are something we’d definitely be interested in.
Other articles we’re not interested in include content you’ve published anywhere else or guest posts from writers who place links from a company or brand.
Also, we’re not at all interested in working with link brokers or people or organizations who want to guest post in order to build links back to their site.
Why You Should Join Us
To be read and be seen!—The Date Mix’s articles are seen by our readers and are also shared throughout the internet via the social channels of Zoosk, the online dating site and app we’re owned and operated by. That includes Zoosk’s over 13,000,000 fans on Facebook.
To get editorial direction and feedback—As a contributor, you’ll work directly with our editors to prepare your article for publication. That means edits, personal feedback, and attention that help you become a better writer. (And references you can use when looking for other opportunities.)
To get paid opportunities—In the event you become a regular contributor, we may be able to offer you compensation based on your experience and availability.
How to Get Started
Before submitting your pitches or reaching out, take a look at the site to get a good idea of what we’re looking for. Then get creative! We’re open-minded and are interested in the stories real daters have to tell.
Other than that, we’re pretty casual. Just send an email to our editorial team at firstname.lastname@example.org with a little bit about you, your article idea or pitch, and a couple of links to your previous writing.
We look forward to hearing from you!
