Long-Distance Date Ideas To Keep Romance Alive And Well

It’s been a really tough year for couples that started dating earlier this year or are doing long-distance. While the threat of the coronavirus has lingered, nobody knew the real impact it would have on the world.

New couples who weren’t ready to move in together were forced into a long-distance relationship, even if they just lived a few blocks away. Based on closures, many early dates likely took place on Zoom.

But, it didn’t stop dating. Many people realized that they didn’t want to handle the pandemic alone, so coupling up became much more popular. Long-distance date ideas became a lot more fun with limited resources. The strongest couples right now are the ones who’ve managed to have fun and make the most of the situation.

Looking for long-distance date ideas to keep things fun with a new partner and the romance alive with a long-term partner? Here are five great suggestions.

Long-Distance Date Ideas: 5 Great Suggestions

  1. Belt out karaoke online

There are plenty of Facebook groups online that encourage fun videos of singing at home. Watching them is a good reminder that we’re all in this together, and we’re not afraid to embarrass ourselves a little if it’ll entertain someone we care about. Not keen on performing on Facebook?

Luckily, there are plenty of karaoke apps out there that’ll make you feel more comfortable. Smule, which was released in 2012, is a big one. Yokee is yet another, which boasts having 100 million subscribers. Just make sure to let loose and have fun — because, the person who sees you belt out a musical classic while cheering you on might be the person you’ll want to spend the rest of your life with.

2. Read books to each other

There’s something incredibly soothing about being read to. If you and your partner both like to read, consider creating your own “book club” where you read passages to each other. It’s spending time together while also engaging in a calming hobby. Reading the same book is also an instant conversation starter, in case you find yourself running out of topics to talk about.

3. Play games together on your phones or computer

Did you know that there are a ton of free gaming services you can access on your phone? Services like GamePigeon and Gamebytes will allow you to play anything from pool to Hangman. Just remember not to be too competitive! Gaming should be fun, not stressful. If the relationship is fairly new, it’s a surefire way to get them to stay engaged in communication.

It’s also a great way to engage them if you know they need to destress, but you’d still like to spend time together. Playing a few rounds of online basketball is a lot less time-consuming than a post-work FaceTime.

4. Look for houses online

This is one of the few long-distance date ideas that can really further your relationship. Even if you’re not even ready for a proposal, it’s fun to think about the future idea while also getting to know your partner. Not only will you learn what you both like in a home, but you can see which particular living settings are most comfortable for them.

If the two of you live in a city but the houses they choose are based in the suburbs, that tells you they want to settle down in a less populated area in the future. If they choose an area and mention the great school districts, it means they’re open to children. Or, if they mention that the kitchen is too small, they may envision entertaining large crowds someday. This might be somewhat of a bold move for a fairly new relationship, but it’s bound to keep the spark going in a relationship that’s pretty serious.

5. Watch a movie together on a streaming platform

There’re plenty of resources to stream a movie together online. Some of the most popular include Netflix Party, Scener, and Amazon Watch Party. Find a sweet movie to watch together and make the most of it.

Also, make sure to treat it like you’re actually at a theater together. Make some popcorn, grab a fountain soda, and turn your phone off. Finding a streaming platform with a chat window is even better since you can bond over funny scenes and questionable special effects as they happen. Communicating about the movie in real-time will make this long-distance date even more memorable.

Long-distance date ideas should all have one thing in common – you and your date getting the opportunity to connect. Even if you can’t physically be together, you can still strengthen the relationship. Being far apart from your loved one is hard but, if both of you can conquer this, you can conquer anything.
