5 Resolutions to Help You Be a Better Dater in 2019

A couple who made New Year's resolutions for dating looking at fireworks going off and feeling hopeful.

As we’re approaching the new year, it’s a good time to get excited for new experiences and new beginnings. Some people take New Year’s resolutions for granted. I’m not one of them. If we want different results then we need to make different decisions. When it comes to dating, the way we go about it must change just as life has changed and continues to do so. Our road map to find love must be up to date.

With an eye on the future here are five new resolutions for dating successfully in the new year.

1. Embrace the evolution.
The digital age has made many aspects of life more efficient, dating shouldn’t be exempt. There are countless tools at our disposal that help us to connect to people. This year, if you focus on using those tools to develop relationships you’ll be in a better position to find what you’re looking for.

2. Be willing to invest.
Even though it seems like it’s popular to be guarded these days, I encourage you to open yourself up to love. Being vulnerable with the right person is not a weakness. Don’t forget to leave your mask at home. The easiest way to find people who fit with you is to be yourself. You don’t need to have climbed Mt. Everest to capture someone’s heart. You do need to be honest and open. The greatest connections are born out of transparency.

3. Avoid wasting time.
When you’re dating, you want to find out as soon as possible if someone is worth the effort you’re putting into a potential relationship. There are a few clear-cut ways to figure out if they’re in it to win it. A person who’s genuinely interested in you will be consistent. They should be regularly calling/texting and initiating dates. Your interactions with them should always be full of reciprocity and respect. They should be willing to invest as much of themselves as you are of yourself, and they should always respect your time and whatever boundaries you have.

4. Change your routine.
If you’re currently in a dating rut, you may have created it. So try something new! Challenge yourself to go somewhere different for that New Year’s cup of coffee, be fluid enough to meet people in new places. Change your gym, or take a new class, increase your dating pool by getting out of your comfort zone and placing yourself in new environments.

5. Remember, the process takes time.
Finding the right person for you will take time and effort. There will be ups and downs, but just like anything else, it is a process. Don’t’ be discouraged. Keep leading your life in positive directions and don’t wait to live life until you find that true love. Live the life you love and you’ll be surprised how quickly you’ll find and attract others doing the same.

Cheers to the new year, may your dating journey be full of precious moments and memorable connections. Set your resolutions now and look forward to a great 2019!
