4 Reasons Older Women Are Dating Younger Men

Recently we’ve seen a new era of older women expanding their dating lives by dating younger men. And they are loving it! You’ve probably seen stories of celebrities like Priyanka Chopra, and her new husband, singer, Nick Jonas, who is 11 years younger, and Kris Jenner, the matriarch of the Kardashian clan, who is 62 and her love, Corey Gamble, who’s 37. These days more and more older women are very happily dating younger guys.

If you’re thinking about it yourself or are just wondering what this trend is all about, here are four reasons that help to explain the recent trend of older women dating younger men.

1. There’s No More Stigma
An older woman who dated a younger guy used to be known as a “cougar”—an animal who preys on younger, supposedly more innocent men. Now we know better than to pigeonhole people this way and numerous couples and single women have shown that this simply isn’t true. For the most part, there’s little to no stigma for older women dating younger men.

2. It Can Make Them Feel Younger
Having a partner, who looks and acts younger, who is more active and playful, can help a woman to act and feel younger herself. In general, surrounding yourself with people who match or elevate your energy is one of the best ways to keep feeling great. If you’re an older woman who feels more of an affinity with younger men, go for it. Dating isn’t about a number, it’s about finding who makes sense for you.

3. It Widens the Available Pool of Men
Women live longer than men and so, as women age, there are simply fewer available men in their age group. Dating younger guys opens up a much bigger pool of possible matches—which increases a woman’s chances of finding a great partner.

4. Less Potential Caretaking in the Future.
If you date men who are five years older than you, that age difference may not matter much when you’re younger. However, when you get over the age of 50 or even 60 that age gap can become more apparent. You may still be full of energy and able to take on a lot of physical tasks while your partner may be slowing down. There’s also a possibility of being in a caretaking relationship with a man in declining health. In general, men to age sooner than women, so dating a younger guy may level this playing field when you both get older.

The clever maturity that comes with age opens a woman to more creative, fulfilling and new relationships, including dating younger men. I’m a dating coach and couldn’t help but share what “Jan” a 45 year old client in my coaching program had to say about her boyfriend Rod, who is 12 years younger than she is:

“I am having the time of my life with Rod! We are like two teenagers, running down the sand, making out at the beach, and generally having a laugh-fest wherever we go! This is the best relationship I have ever been in!”

When it comes to finding the person for you, sometimes the best fit may not look the way you expect. More and more older woman are keeping their minds open when it comes to age, and as a result some are finding that a younger man just happens to be the best person for them.
