Relationship Advice for Men

The man kissing a woman in front of a lake took some good relationship advice for men to make her happy.

As you’ve probably already realized, men and women are different. There’s no getting around it. And on top of that, every woman is different in her own right as well. That’s why some of the best relationship advice for men is about how to make sure the unique needs of the woman you’re with are addressed by the way you treat her. If you’re looking for something fulfilling and meaningful, the key is understanding what the woman in your life really wants. Once you understand that, you can create the satisfying relationship you both want.

So what do women really want in a relationship? According to dating coach Laurel House, women want to feel “safe, sexy, and seen” by their partners. It takes a nice guy who is willing to pursue a woman and connect with her in a meaningful way to do this.

Here are four ways to make your partner feel safe with you, sexy to you, and seen by you:

Get To Know Her, Really Really Know Her
Unfortunately, many women have had pretty bad and extremely memorable first date experiences with men who want to skip over all the get-know-you steps and go straight to bed. Women are on high-alert about this. Not only is it just plain wrong to think that every woman wants to sleep with you on the first date, it also tells a woman that a serious relationship isn’t what you’re after.

What women are really looking for during the first several dates is if she feels an emotional connection with you. Having meaningful conversations show that you’re truly interested in who she is as a person rather than just wanting to get her into bed. Show her right off the bat that you’re genuinely interested in getting to know her by sharing something about yourself. You will signal to her that you’re willing to be open with her, which allows her the opportunity to let her guard down and reciprocate. Find out if you have any shared interests and values and don’t forget to be a gentlemen on your date by treating her with respect.

Learn Her Love Language
Dr. Gary Chapman wrote a short book with a large amount of insight about making relationships thrive. It outlined the concept of the five languages and the importance of learning your partner’s love languages. “My conclusion after many years of marriage counseling,” Dr. Chapman says, “is that there are five emotional love languagesfive ways that people speak and understand emotional love.” Those include words of affirmation, quality time, receiving gifts, acts of service, and physical touch.

According to Chapman, once you know your partner’s love language you can then express love to your partner in the way that she is most receptive to it. Sometimes partners have a difficult time feeling loved by one another because the way they express love is different, so understanding what it is can give you the tools you need to ensure she feels loved by you.

Empathy Is The Way to Her Heart
Women have an innate desire to be heard and understood. They want a partner who will listen to them without judgment and who will create an environment where they feel comfortable expressing vulnerability. Some of the best relationship advice for men is learning to master the skill of empathy. There are many ways to be empathetic, which include active listening, suspending any judgment or preconceived notions you may have about a given situation and putting yourself in her shoes, and showing positive body language to let her know that you’re engaged in the conversation.

You can tell if you’re lacking empathy when you hear responses from your partner like:  “You’re always trying to fix things,“ or “I just want you to listen,” or “You just don’t understand.” Non-empathic behaviors make her feel like she’s alone, that you don’t understand her, or that she can’t rely on you to help her overcome issues. On the other hand, conveying true empathy makes her feel as if the two of you are in this together. You’re a unit, a team, and you can work through challenges together.

Keep Up The Romance
The last thing you want to have happen with a woman you want to pursue romantically is to fall into the friend zone. To avoid this, you need to prove that you’re the full package. Not only can she rely on you for emotional intimacy, but for physical intimacy as well. Holding doors, pulling out chairs, leaving her a card that she finds in the morning before leaving for work, telling her she’s beautiful, surprising her with a massage, and planning a date night are all ways to keep that romantic spark flaming. Imagine how turned on she would be if you called her in the middle of a random day and said, “Meet me at 8:00, I’ve planned something for you.”

Now that you understand some of the relationship advice for men that makes your partner feel safe, sexy, and seen, take an honest look at your relationships with women think about what you can do to better meet these needs. This can make all the difference in moving a worthwhile relationship forward.
