What Changes When You Start Dating in Your 40s

People dating in their 40s.

We can all agree that dating can be daunting, but dating in your 40s—without the drama and insecurity of your 20s and 30s–can be a great time to meet the perfect person. By 40, you’re well aware of who you are and what you value. You’ve also had your fair share of relationships, both good and bad, that have taught you what you need most from a partner.

Whether you’re back on the dating scene after several years or you’ve been dating nonstop, it’s easy to convince yourself that all the ‘good ones’ are taken, but this couldn’t be further from the truth. In fact, more than half of the adult population in the U.S. is single. So, even though a love connection seems unlikely, there’s never been a better time to date.

If you’re still not convinced, just remember that dating in your 40s does have its perks:

1. Your prospects are more mature. Unlike their younger counterparts, older men are more aware of what’s important in a relationship and what it takes to make it work. By 40, most men have been married or part of a long-term relationship. Although it’s easy to focus on the baggage, you might be pleasantly surprised when that “baggage” produces a partner who knows better than to forget an anniversary or throw your expensive bras in the dryer.
