Winter Sex: Top Tips For Getting Steamy As It Gets Cold Outside

Happy couple lying in bed looking at each other and smiling while talking about winter sex ideas.

You’re not the first person to look for advice on how to make winter sex great. As the leaves begin to fall and the temperature outside begins to drop, we all feel the urge to snuggle more. But, how do we transition from being cozy under a warm blanket to getting hot and steamy with our partner?

Despite what people might commonly think, dropping temperatures don’t have to mean a lowering sex drive. Winter sex might sound like a cold prospect, but it doesn’t have to be. We’ve compiled a list of the eight best ideas for bringing out the best in the cold months.

8 Winter Sex Tips to Get Cozier

1. Wear socks: they’re sexier than they seem

A University of Groningen study found that 80% of couples who wore socks during sex were able to reach orgasm. This compared to just 50% who could climax without socks.

Having warm and cozy feet improves blood flow. Better blood flow equals better ability to climax, and that’s sexy. You can take this a step further by wearing cute socks, or even knee or thigh-high socks for an extra cute view.

2. Get cozy by the fire

There’s nothing more romantic than snuggling up next to something warm while it’s cold outside. So, whether you decide to take a camping trip, or set up the fireplace at home, cuddling up with your partner by the fire can kickstart some seriously steamy situations!

Try sharing a blanket while enjoying the flames and see what happens. It’s a great time for exploration on a more innocent level and can bring you back to a time when things weren’t so rushed. Plus, any excuse to make S’mores is always welcome!

3. Turn your bathroom into a spa

Having winter sex can be the perfect time to turn your bathroom into a spa. Break out the candles and indulge in fancy bathing products. You can keep it PG at first. Sharing the time together, adding in a sensual massage, or soaking in the warmth can always lead to something more.

4. Make sure the toys are warm

Sex toys are a great way to spice up your sex life but in winter, silicone, metal, and glass can get pretty cold. While they’ll eventually warm to your body, when you’re having winter sex and it’s already cold, it seems to take forever.

To get around this, try putting your waterproof toys in warm water and get things hot, fast. But, be sure to never use boiling water as this can cause damage to your favorite items.

5. Get up close and personal

The key to warmth is maximizing skin-to-skin contact. Try the spoon position, which allows for the most skin contact, while also mimicking a hug. It’ll make you feel physically and mentally closer to your partner and has the added benefit of helping keep you both warm.

6. Change up the location

Dryer sex, anyone? Imagine this: You’ve spent your day outside and now your clothes are wet. What can you possibly do? Invite your partner to join you in the laundry room while you put your soaking wet clothes in the dryer. It’s usually a great height for standing sex, and you’ll have the bonus of a warm bottom while you’re seated on the dryer!

7. Drink some hot tea before performing oral

This works for anyone looking for a sure-fire way to warm things up during winter sex. If you want to step it up a notch, try peppermint tea. Peppermint tea leaves a tingling sensation on your partner’s most sensitive parts.

Coupled with the warmth from your mouth, you’re looking at giving some of the best oral your partner has ever received.

8. Let’s get slippery

Giving your partner a massage is always a welcome activity, but you can make it even better when it’s cold outside by using warming oils. Always be sure to mix these oils with a carrier and don’t use them directly on the skin without it.

Eucalyptus, pine, orange, cypress, and ginger are all warming oils that smell deliciously festive too. Warm the oil between your hands first, then glide it over your partner’s muscles, helping to relax them and start an inner fire. Be careful where you use these, as that tingling sensation may be too much for more sensitive body parts.

Getting cozy during the colder months doesn’t need to be a sexless prospect. With some planning and ingenuity, you can turn what’s usually a dark and cold time into something better. Try these winter sex suggestions and see what happens!
