How Guys Text When They Like You: Step by Step

They go heavy on the emojis

These days, there’s an emoji for almost everything. It’s almost like they were invented to clear up possibly misunderstood text situations. If this is a guy who’s aware that you don’t know his level of sarcasm or sense of humor yet, he’ll go out of his way to make sure that emojis will help show when he’s joking.

He’ll also reveal his playful nature. If he’s not an emoji guy, adding “lol” to the end of sentences will let you know he’s being lighthearted. He’s almost certainly not actually laughing out loud. But, he very well may be smiling when he sent you that text – which, of course, is how a guy texts when he likes you.

They’ll find any excuse to start up a new conversation

If he’s bored, it suddenly seems like you’re his go-to person. You may get a few texts that just say “hey” or “what’s up?” If he wasn’t interested, he wouldn’t even bother. But you’re on his mind, and he just wants any sort of excuse to talk to you.

Some of these early conversations might be your best because there’s still so much you’re learning about each other. Every text can be something new.

He’s not afraid to double text

It may seem like there are a lot of etiquette rules out there, but double texting is fairly new. As the name implies, it’s when a guy texts you after you haven’t texted back. When a guy double texts you, it’s a pretty clear sign he’s interested. Sure, it might make him look a little needy, but he likes you to the point where he’d rather take the chance.

He’ll also be the one to text you first

How do guys text when they like you? Very frequently, for one thing. You don’t have to worry about being the person to start things up – he has no problem texting you first, regardless of what time it is. He’ll also send you a text at midnight if it’s something he might forget to tell you in the morning, or if he sees something that reminds him of you.

This maneuver has two purposes. He’s striking up a conversation for you to reply to first thing in the morning and is also secretly hoping you’re awake for a spontaneous late-night chat.

He’s got a bunch of questions, and some of them are straight-up bizarre

Instead of just asking about your favorite movie or musical group, his “getting to know you” questions are a lot more creative. He wants to know what celebrity you’d bring with you on a desert island, and the one television show you’d wish out of existence if you had the power.

This is because he’s making sure he’s compatible with you, and having fun together is all part of it. He’ll ask you questions about your job, and your family, but potentially avoid questions about your past relationships. Aside from, “currently seeing anyone?”

He won’t be too crude unless you’re the one who sends the suggestive text first

An important part of learning how guys text when they like you is understanding that, despite the fact guys are often bold when it comes to texts and sex, if he’s really into you, he’ll be more conservative at first.

That’s because, with you, he’s got so much more on his mind and doesn’t want to blow it by sounding perverted or making you uncomfortable. However, if you bring up the topic first, he’ll be down to chat about it (and probably intrigued that you made the first move.)

He hints at a hangout

Even though it’s perfectly fine to hang out with a guy as a friend, this guy seems really into the idea of making plans. If he’s brought it up many times, that’s him subtly asking you out on a date. Don’t be afraid to say yes if you think he’s got real potential.

If it seems like your phone is constantly blowing up, this guy is definitely crushing on you. Think about it — when was the last time you had a day-long text conversation with a guy who’s just a friend?

Look Out for the Details

As guys, we can be pretty mysterious when it comes to texting. It’s not always easy to judge emotions through a text message. That’s why, when figuring out how guys text when they like you, it’s important to look out for the details.

Pay attention to the flow of conversation, the language he uses, how often he texts, and whether he seems keen to meet up. And, when you do meet for a first date, look out for his body language too. These things will help you to determine his true feelings for you.
